November 26, 1968 (Letter from Mardi)

Hope you're enjoying your vacation.  I know you are!  I'm just sitting here all alone.  (It seems so good.)  Everybody should be gone by tomorrow night for sure.  Jim Mead got here today.  Nobody knew.  He came to see Peggy.  It seemed funny to hear him talk about the Gloves and Shorty's.  It was like old home week.

Nothing too much is happening.  Saturday night Wendy and I went party hopping.  We took four pint size cans of Bud and two cans of Colt 45 and brought it back to the apt.  You could bring in a case and nobody would know.  Then we went back out and drank Southern Comfort and we stopped at one keg party and I swear I never drank so much beer!  I was up all night drinking ice water.

Jan is supposed to have a big bash at her apt Thursday.  But I really don't feel like going.  I think I'd like to spend a nice quiet day and night.

I've getting spastic waiting for Christmas.

Today in Charm we started make-up.  You'll never recognize me.  We're starting with the eyes and today she shaped my eyebrows.  I'll be my own duddy self, don't worry.  My hair is getting long!  I'm trying to get rid of the bangs.

I hope you can make it out here in January.  I forgot to tell you that Mr. Sayles told me when I talked to him that he's supposed to come out in January some week for a convention, second or third week.

I must go and do some speechwriting.  Take care, waiting to hear you on the phone.  I sent Mike some pictures for you to look at.  They're really cute.

November 20, 1968 (Letter from Anne)

Hi kid, how are ya?  Everybody is fine here.  As you can see I invested in some stationary.  Big deal!

Sorry I haven't written but this hole (Hoffman) has had some action so I've been pretty busy.

I went and saw the Chamber Bros.  Those guys are fantastic.  Tom took me to the Electric Theater in Chicago.  The light shows there are terrific.  I really had a lot of fun.

What can I say?

My love life isn't so hot and I really don't care.  I get stuck with all the creeps.....and they all mess me up.  Not that way!  Chuckle!

My school work has gone up fantastically.  A- in W. History, B+ in Journalism, C+ in Adv. Bio, and B- in Geometry.  Not bad huh!  For me it's terrific.

I'm going to Iron Mountain for Christmas.  God! I can't wait.  Fun!  Fun!  Wait till you hear this.  Fritz has shot speed.  With the needle yet.  No lie.  I'm not kidding.  I mean I've smoked grass but I'd never drop or shoot speed.

Hate to cut off from I've got a report to do in Journalism.  Ich!  Write soon.

November 20, 1968 (Letter from Kathy)

Since you like the other envelope so much, here is another.

We have a phone in our library that is broken (purposely), and I can call anywhere for nothing.  I called home a couple times, called Gary once, and I'm calling Sue Smith tonight.  It's really cool.  You just connect the two wires together at the end of the call and all the money comes back.

Only two more days of classes for me this term -- then finals begin.  By the time you get this, there'll be only 5 days until I get home.  Yeah!!!

My roommate is almost definitely coming home the weekend Dec 6-8.  She's got a date with Chuck Musante.  I hope she has a good time.  Chuck seemed the best match for her, although I told her I thought you and Mark would be more fun.  There is so much emphasis on nationality and religion up here though, so I thought an Italian would be better for her.

I had 2 1/2 hours sleep last night.  I stayed up to type some papers for these girls until 3:30, then I had to get up at 6:00 to go to work.  I came back and cut my 9:00 chemistry lab to sleep another 2 1/2 hours.  I had to get up at 12:00 for English because we were having a quiz.  I'm not feeling very good right now because I've had so little sleep.  College is so ridiculous in that respect.

I'm bringing my instruments home.  Would you like your teeth cleaned?

Well, this is just a short note, but it should hold you until Thanksgiving.  Take care and I'll see you in one week. I have to scoot off to biology now -- it's 2:00.

Do you realize that we have no snow here yet.  I've only seen one snowflake.  It's snowed about two minutes so far, and it didn't even stick.  Now that I'm complaining.  Don't get me wrong.  I'm planning on doing some skiing up here though since everyone skis up here.  Honestly, every guy I've met, either is on a ski patrol or has a cabin near a ski slope.  This winter should have a lot of skiing on those high slopes -- I'll probably be too scared to go down them.  They are just a little bigger than our foothills!!

November 18, 1968 (Letter from Mardi)

It's really snowing today.  I can't believe you're home.  I think I'm going horny out here.  I know you'll have a good time at home.  Stop in and see my mother.  She'd love that.  Tell Joan her one and only letter was appreciated.  I finally heard form Tina.  I hear through the grapevine that the Pub has changed to 21.  You can't win.

Nancy and I are making all these plans today.  It seems so much like Christmas.  Right now it's 3:00 and it's so dark and hazy out.  They're decorating all of the city and should be done Thanksgiving.

This weekend went flying by so fast.  Friday night Mike had steak at his apt for us.  It was a surprise for Wendy and I.  We had a misunderstanding though and I'm afraid I probably won't be dating him again, unless we work things out.

You win some and ya lose some but most of the time you get rained out.

Sat night it started to snow and since Wendy and I were home w/ no dates for some reason, we cut up tons of magazines and we're doing the entire walls and ceiling into a collage.  Then we went out about 11:30 and made a huge snowman.  When we don't have anything to do we find out own fun.

Sunday Nancy and Peggy and I went downtown and clonked around and ended up sitting in a restaurant eating.  I have to stop eating because when I get home, I'm going to stuff myself.

Right now I'm waiting for you to call me.  That's another thing I'm going to do is call people on the phone all day and just say hi!  Then the luxury of a car.  Shit!  I want to come home and see everybody.  Everybody is getting their suitcases and packing.  Blaaa!

Take care honey!  29 days!

November 17, 1968 (Letter from Patty)

I'm sorry that I haven't written for so long, but I've been waiting for an opportunity to invite you up.  It just hasn't arose yet.  It's really hard to believe how quickly the time goes around here.

The first half of the semester is almost over.  We finished taking midterms last week.  I don't ever want to think about last week thought.  It was one of the worst weeks of my life.  I still don't think I've recovered.  Such is life.

You won't believe this, but Chris and Monica got married yesterday.  I almost fainted when I got her letter.  It's hard to imagine the people you've grown up with married.  I know I can't imagine myself married.

I guess they're going to live in Georgia and Monica is going to start school at Georgia Tech with Chris.  At least that's what I gather from her letter -- it was written rather hurriedly.

Thanksgiving vacation starts a week from this Wed, but I'm not expecting much rest.  I'm leaving Tues nite cuz I don't have any classes Wed morning, and going home till Thursday nite.  Then I'm going to East Meadow to stay with a friend until Sunday, when I'm supposed to get a ride back up here.

How is everything going for you?  Have you heard from Mike or anyone else since you left for school?  I got a letter from Mike and answered it.  As of now, he hasn't written back.

Well, typical of me I've got to answer about five more letters, so I'd better leave you.  Write soon.

November 12, 1968 (Letter from Mardi)

Your card was darling.  It sounds like everything is going fine.  Are you getting caught up on your studies?  Everything is in place her e-- I've been keeping up w/ studies but I have an entire book to read for tomorrow.  I'm waiting for a psych test in the near future.  Those chapters, blaaa!  How are the stars and stripes.  You're crazy.  I've got to go to psych class in about 10 min so I better get a move on.

Psych class was a real thrill today.  I got a letter from Renee and one from Barb.  Nancy and I have to go all the way to Lake Street post office because Barb sent me a package.

This weekend went flying by in no time.  Mike had a party at his apt Friday night, and we went out Saturday night.  Sun Mike and Mike were going to have steak dinner for Wendy and I, but Wendy had to work.  Wendy and I have it planned to stay with this girl Jan over Thanksgiving.  She has a huge apartment and told us we could stay anytime.  That way we won't have any hours!  Mike said something about going out for dinner and I'm not going to let him forget it.  We're getting along great now, we always have, but we've even getting better now.  Duh!  Are you dating anyone special?  don't.  Hehe!  You old schlemiel you!  The American flag.

Everybody is waiting for Thanksgiving so they can go home.  Linda and Jane and Carol are going home for sure.  They're leaving the 22nd.  They'll have a whole week.  Oh, my phone number is: area code 612-333-9420.  Mardi, apt 36.  I'd love to hear your voice -- hint, hint!  I called Barb Sat and she called me back about 2:30 in the morning.  Barney and I were making dinner.  We talked for quite awhile.  She most likely won't be able to come out for Thanksgiving.  It will cost too much because she can't fly stand-by.  I'm trying to get Foster out here.  On stand-by from Cleveland on a non-stop flight it's nothing at all.

I am so ready for a vacation!!!  37 lousy days.  I live from weekend to weekend.  I have tons to do this weekend -- all my dirty drawers have to be washed.

I must go finish my book for my lit test tomorrow.

Can't wait to see ya ol' -- miss ya, take care.  Sorry about the short letter but I just don't have enough time and I have to answer five more letters.

November 8, 1968 (Letter from Kathy)

Well, I went to another fraternity party last night, only this week I was a good girl and didn't even get high.  I had four glasses, but I was completely sober and didn't really feel good, but I still had a good time.  Have a date tonight with the guy I met last Friday night at the fraternity party.

I got a ride into Buffalo for Thanksgiving, and my parents are going to pick me up at the airport there.  This guy is either coming back Sunday night or Monday morning.  I have a final in chemistry Monday morning, so I'm hoping he'll come back on Sunday night.  If I ride with him both ways then I'm definitely going home for fall break (Dec. 3-8).  If Marie is willing to spend the $32 for plane tickets, then she is going to come with me.  I really hope she decides to come.  She should have gone to my high school (well, maybe not) because we would have gotten into so much trouble.  We both would have gotten into so much trouble.  We both seem to have the same ridiculous ideas at the same time.   It's really funny.  I want to show her a good time too, because I'm proud of my little town and the wonderful people in it and I want her to like it too.

I make her study and she helps me get around in this big mean city.  I'm still kinda scared of the city, and having Marie as a guide sure helps.

The guy situation is getting better.  Have met a few guys that appear to be after things other than sex -- like nice clean fun.

I'm working the desk (paging people) this afternoon as a favor for the girl on my floor.  I'm kinda scared, but I guess I"ll live through it all.

This is a long weekend -- no classes Monday.  I have to use the time wisely though and get some homework done ahead of time so I'll have free time later to study for finals that are rapidly approaching.  They're only two weeks away.  But then again home is only two weeks away, also.  Yeah!!!

I'm interested in this "thumper" game.  Since when has the drinking age 21 posed a problem for the Warren gang?  In fact, being 17 never even bothered us in high school.  Why in heavens name should we start worrying about it now??  You'll have to show some of us how to play it.  OK?  OK!

I bet you made a really cute American flat -- that was such a better idea than the mummy idea.  I'll remember it!

I smoked last Friday night for the first time when I was high.  It was really, really terrible.  Even drunk, I went and rinsed my mouth out right away!

Well, Paul, I'll see you in two short weeks.  Take care until then and please don't get sick again.

P.S. I think they're gonna be two long weeks because of all the anticipation.  I'm really getting excited.
