September 1976 (Letter from Ken)

Thanks much for our research.  You asked why it was so important.  Well, I have to pre-empt the answer with a personal note or two.

First I must tell you, that I have given any work in my life to God.  I have accepted as my personal savior.  Consequently, I am into Bible prophecy as would figure.  Please note that this does not preclude Buddhism as a philosophy, yoga, T.A. and other things I"m into.  Anyway, it says in Daniel that the beast (anti-Christ) will bear its own number.  The number of the beast is 666.  The original title given to the first Pope was in Latin of course, and it was all in Roman numerals. Those R. numerals add up to 666.  Throughout history, there has been an attempt to hide this information.  You see Paul, we are in the last days now.  The ten horns referred to in Daniel 7 are the ten counties of the middle east.  There will be a revival of the Roman Empire and a great peace maker shall arise.  If you have been watching the news, you will see that the pope is about to emerge as the peace maker.  I always got the impression that you were an agnostic and more of the Eastern religions.  I am mitigated even to the point where I master the tarot cards. I do hope that you accept Jesus as your savior because he paid one heck of a price to be available.  Being open minded and a fellow truth seeker as you are -- what a marvelous project that would be. Dissect the Revelation of Daniel and concord it day by day with the current events of the day.  I am doing this myself.

I know this about you -- first let me lay this absolute truth upon you.  There is only one thing that cannot be taken from you and it is your right to choose between good or evil.   What you seek is what you get.  I know you seek good.  I hope that is Jesus is part of your life or will be soon.  I really pray this.

Please let me know if this letter reaches you.  As soon as I hear back from you and know my letter won't end up in the dead letter office, I will send you a long scribe.  Sure do hope to hear from you.

September 1976 (Letters from Ken)

Darn man, it was really beautiful to get your letter.  Like yourself, I hardly know where to begin, to be specific, general or in between!  But first I just want to emphasize how happy I was to hear from you!

I guess what would seem most obvious of importance from my perspective is what time of day it is. What I'm referring to sis my potential "get out".  The 19th of this month I will have been down 24 months.  It has been a long time but most fulfilling.  I have 16 months or less to go.  Not bad and I still have a lot left to do within these hallowed walls of myself and the joint.  Like you I have been widening my horizons in much the same direction and yet in much of a different direction.  Your truth-seeking seems to cover the intellectual ground and self awareness spectrum.  Other than studying transactional analysis, chess, & bridge, those have been the limits of my intellectual development.  However, I have become top-rate in all three of the aforementioned fields.

The remainder of my development has been toward God, Christ, self, Bible prophecy, cosmic awareness, use of power, etc. all leading toward spiritual enlightenment and freedom & peace. You might find this strange, but even in prison, I look forward to each day and find so much happiness.  Of course, the big drawback is not having a woman physically, but perhaps some darkness is necessary to give contrast to the light.  I thank God every day & night for bringing the great truths that he has in my darkness through life.  I could go on & on with what I've learned and I'm sure you can too.  I hope we can do this in future letters.  I know we can. You & I don't have to play the game "I know more than you do".  In other words, it won't be an ego or vanity race, but rather a constructive exchange of truths & knowledge. How's that sound to you old' buddy?

You know, I can't help but tell you that my writing to you was the result of a spiritual urge and therefore, there being a reason for everything, it must really be important.

Before I forget, I have a super favor to ask of you that will fall right in your alley.  The Romans gave the first & original pope a certain title which translated mean "vice christ".  The title is three words long.  The first word is vicar or vicer or something like that.  Being the researcher that you are, could you find out what the title was.  I know that all 3 words are spelled with Roman numerals.  It is very, very important to me.  I have exhausted my resources which are of course limited.  You will keep running into "vicar of Christ" in your research but it is the original roman title that I need.  The significance is great.  I really hate to be a prick, but please make it a hurry-up issue as there are a couple of dozen of us that will be waiting for your reply on this matter.  When you do find the title, add up the roman numerals -- you will be amazed.  After that I can fill you in on the rest of what goes with it.

Say, do you know you live in the state I was born?  Yep.  I was born in Boston at 4:21 am Feb 12. That makes me 31 tomorrow!  I didn't realize it till just now.  Well my writing is starting to get scribbly, so will break for a while and go to show.

Back for a while.  What dictionary publisher do you work for?  Actually it sounds like a decent gig what with you having time for personal projects.  I don't mind telling you, I'm in about the same position.  I have the best job in the joint and only work an average of 10 minutes a day whereas everyone else work about 7 1/2 -8 hours.  Personal projects do seem so rewarding.  Right now my mind is racing so fast I'm having a hard time keeping up with my pen.  When you do see your break-away point, what will it be?  I'm not quite sure what you want in life.  In fact, I only recently figured out what I want in life in a total sense.

Five to six miles each morning is really super.  I envy you.  Actually all I've been able to do is keep my weight down.  Decided to wait until the last 7 or 8 months to take care of my physical development, but it is all part of my agenda plan.  I even have my schedule laid out to fix my physique -- cutting out again for a while.  Someone just called me to Colombia, so I'll be in nice head shape when I return.   --later. Hi -- back again.  Thought I was going to Colombia but found myself in the poorest section of Mexico.  Bums me out.

Say, when you run, do you fill your moth with water?  It's an old Indian trick and it works fantastic. Makes you break thru your nose hence expanding your lungs more.  Also keeps your saliva glands cool.  Try it -- you'll like it.  Kool-aid works good or something with flavor.  You'll have to tell me more about your experience with yoga.  Don't hesitate to be specific.  I don't' think I could ever get into cause I've always got a sprained something or other.  Like even now, I'm wearing an ace bandage on my right foot.  I played on the all-store team (softball -- 2nd base) this last summer. On the last out of the season, I threw my arm out, going home with the ball for the force play.  We won as the throw was hard enough for a double play.  This summer I will be a player coach.  If I do say so myself, I play softball real good.

In re: your original work in American History, are you attempting to write a textbook?  You will find in your research that John & Mary Walley came over on the trip to Plymouth Rock and their names show up often in Seward's Diary.  A good place to further your research is the "Boston Genealogical Center"  Say, also you'll find my great-great-great grandfather's name on the plaque of the crew of hte ship "Constitution".  His name was the same as my younger brother -- Harold George Walley.  Up until my goddamned Yugoslavian mother, the Walleys were thoroughbred.  I'm now just a half-breed.

So -- were you trying to tell me that you don't get high on herb anymore?  It's not bad.  I went into the natural high for a while too.  Ten days on water, fruit (not canned) and vegetables (not canned) and you're off.  My tendencies to be carnivorous, though, brought me back to the chasm of sin. The human body isn't even made to digest meat.

In telegram style, let me lay out some news.

Divorce from Denise last year -- Dollar Date Dead -- no pictures of Wendy since 1 yr. old -- lost most "friends" -- doing only God's work now -- 3 stomach operations -- plan to release to Calif (Oakland) -- in process of checking this out -- cut off all ties with all but selected "few".  So look here, I'll get back to ya tomorrow morning.  Tonight, a group of us Christian brothers sit around and rap.  I'm afraid I do most of the rapping.  Till the morning.  Gonna get this in the mailbox right now and continue later.

July 8, 1975 (Letter from Denise)

Montana Summer 1975

Hi!  I just wanted to drop you a little note to let you know that everything is A.O.K. over at the Walley's house.   Kenny's back from the hospital about three weeks ago just in time for me to go in.  Yes, I went into the hospital on June 24th at 2AM and had a little girl at 11:11 AM the same day, June 24th.  She has blue eyes, weighed 6 lb. 15 oz. and was 20 inches tall.  She looks just like Kenny.  We named her Wendy May.

The last letter I wrote you was the day Kenny went into the hospital, and I was so scared something was going to happen to him.  His burns were really bad, all 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree burns.  His burns were so bad that they (West Penn) were going to fly him to Kentucky.  West Penn didn't have any room in the burn unit, so that's what they were going to do.

When you get time, write us a letter.

May 27, 1975 (Letter from Denise)

Montana 1975

I'm glad to hear that you're doing ok.  I'm also glad to hear that you enjoyed your vacation to California.  I'll let you know what's happening with us at the present time.  There is so much that is happening at the present time, and a lot in the present future.  Remember I or Kenny told you that we were going to make some angel dust, well we started it, and we're not yet done with it cause when Kenny opened the ether, something caused it to catch on fire.  The whole kitchen was in flames, and Kenny was in there with it.  Kenny got burnt really bad, and is now in West Penn Hospital.  He's got 2nd and 3rd degree burns.  The burns he does have are on both his arms, the back of his knees, the middle part of his back, and his face is badly burnt which consists of blisters on both of his lips.  Paul, I don't know how you feel about God or even about praying to the Lord, but could you say a little prayer for Kenny.  You know something, I knew something was going to happen, I didn't know exactly what, but I just knew something was going to happen.

We've only got 8 more days till our first anniversary.  On June 2nd, we will be married for one full year.  You know something, we may both be in the hospital June 2nd.  I'm going to try to hold this kid back until June 2nd.  Kenny and I thought there was going to be time a couple of days ago, but it was a false alarm.  You know something, we're not even ready to bring the kid home.  We don't have a crib or any clothes or anything.  The only thing we do have is a couple of dresses if it's a girl.  I'm making a blanket for him which I'm almost done with.

You know something, I'm really worried about Kenny.  He's not even allowed to have any visitors because he may get infections from outside people.  I was going to spend the whole day with him today too, and when I found out about him not having any visitors, that really pissed me off.  It took me 2 1/2 hours to get out there, and I was only allowed to spend 5 minutes with him.  I was lucky to get 5 minutes, they weren't going to let me see him at all.  Paul, just say a little prayer, please  I've got to close for now, will write when you let me know what's happening with you.

March 19, 1975 (Letter from Ken and Denise)

Well hi there.  Sounds like things are going somewhat rough for you on the social scene.  Often Denise and I have remarked:  "Too bad Paul isn't here now."  There is so much news to catch up on, but first, a bit about your last letter.  At the onset, I thought maybe it was just a temporary change you were going thru but after I thought awhile, I can see you and your setting don't mix beyond a span of vacation.  Let me assure you that if you return to Pgh, you will immediately have a family to move in with.  If you don't like it there, and you're going to leave "sometime" anyway -- why not now.  a lot of things are happening here and we wish you were here!

To give you some of our news -- well I'll let Denise take a shot at this.  So here's the one, the only Neecy!  Da-da-goo-ga-goo Bab a lob a koo.

Boy, how did you like that introduction?  I thought it was kind of gooey myself.

Well, just as Kenny said, there are a lot of things happening.  The most recent bit of news is that we moved again.  Our new address is: 20-F Midway Dr., W. Mifflin, Pa 15122.  This is out hear Homestead, which is near Kennywood.  This is a housing project out here where the rent is really low.  We got a two bedroom apartment one which we use, and one which a brother uses, which brings us to our second bit of news.  The brother of ours that lives with us just came out of prison.  We met him through someone else.  His name is Mickey by the way.  So anyway, Mickey came over one day by himself, I think it was to buy some grass.  But anyway, he was looking for a place to stay, and didn't have enough money, so he's living with us now.  That day, the first day when he came over, Kenny asked him how much money he had.  Mickey pulls out all of it which totaled an amount of 75 or 80 dollars.  Kenny said OK and grabbed it and put it in his pocket, which helped all 3 of us stay high on the weed.  We all had to get adjusted to each other's lifestyle for awhile, but we've got it pretty together now.  Mickey's been living with us now since January, and it's really been kind of neat.  It seems like the both of us are more on the ball now that there is a third person living with us.

Another piece of news is that Kenny's friend Steve who is in the joint, is probably getting out soon.  We're both his parole sponsors.  When he gets out, he'll have a place to stay also.  (If anything happens to you, you'll always have a place to stay as long as we're around.)  This is our biggest news is that we've moved again.  Our new address is 20F Midway Dr., W. Mifflin, Pa 15122.  What this is, is a housing project.  We have a two bedroom apartment which consists of two bedrooms upstairs with a bath, and a linen closer.  Now, downstairs we have a huge, or a pretty big living room, a kitchen and a little office space which is actually in the living room.  Outside we have a back porch, a backyard, and a front yard.  This is all for $89.00 a month.  We didn't have too hard of a time moving, we just moved everything in Mickey's car.  We made about ten trips, but we saved a lot of money moving.  Everything is pretty well straightened up except for our bedroom.  We haven't even got the bed together.  We're getting to that today though.

I'm still working with Dollar Date.  We're waiting for Steve to get out so he can take it over though.

Oh, guess what?  Before we moved out of the apartment at Aiken, we, or Kenny called Mrs. Annolik which was the one who owned the house on Wellesley.  Ken didn't say who he was at first, but later on in the conversation he did.  She was telling Kenny how dirty the people left the place who were living there before.  And she went on telling Ken that they (us) left garbage all over the place.  All of a sudden Ken said, well, you're speaking to the person who used to live there.  Ken called to find out if we could go back there, but Annolik didn't like the idea at all, and said no, that she wouldn't take us back.

Well, I think it's time to close this letter.  Don't forget that if there's anything that we can do don't hesitate to ask.  If you're coming back to Pa., you already have a place you can come back to, and that's our place.

Waiting to hear from you.

November 28, 1974 (Letter from Ken and Denise)

"New" Parsonage, Great Falls, Montana
Photo taken September 1974

Hi!  How are you?  It's been a long time since I've written, but a lot of things have been happening since we last heard from you.  I was already to send you a letter the Sunday before Thanksgiving, but I never finished the letter and lost it while getting things together.  The things we were getting together were personal things such as clothes, furniture, and other utensils.  What I'm trying to say is that we've moved.  The place we are living in now is much better than Wellesley Ave.  Our new place is completely furnished, wall to wall carpeting, and this place has heat. We were really getting sick over there.  The place was so cold that it was much warmer outside.  We were home all day with no heat, and would not get any until about 7:00 p.m.  We decided to move within one day.

Well, our Xmas party is this Saturday.  I think it will be good even if we don't get the 400 people we are expecting to fill the place.

How was your Thanksgiving?  We had Thanksgiving dinner the Sunday before.  I made teh whole dinner myself.   I couldn't believe I cooked the whole bird myself.  It was really good.  Well everything was good except the stuffing was a little dry.  I made enough food to feed an army, and there were only 4 of us eating.  So that's when we had our dinner, and on Thanksgiving day, we had pizza.

Again I want to say that I am really sorry for not answering your letter sooner.  Ken says hi also, and we are both waiting to hear from you.  If you can't read the address on the envelope, the address is: 305 S. Aiken Ave., Pgh, Pa. 15232.  Take care and be good.

November 7, 1974 (Postcard from Ken and Denise)

We're up here in a log cabin right now.  We're both having a nice time.  It's real beautiful up here.  I would even like to live in the cabin if it were in Pgh.  Wish you were here with us.

November 2, 1974 (Letter from Ken and Denise)

Gibson Park, Great Fall, Montana
Photo taken in September 1974

Sorry we didn't answer your letter sooner.  We've really been busy, and each day I say I'll write this afternoon, and the time just never came.

A lot of things have been happening in DOLLAR DATE, and with us.  I'll tell you about DOLLAR DATE first.  We're going to have a party on Dec. 14th, which will be on a Saturday.  The party will cost $5.00 for membership admission , and $2.00 for a member's friend, outside of DOLLAR DATE.  We'll have all the beer you can drink, and all the food you can eat at no other cost other than the cost of the ticket.  It will be really nice.  That's if everyone is coming.  But we're just going to invite everyone, and anyone to the Christmas party.  We're going to call people from the telephone book, and invite them to a Xmas party.  Ken is going to call everyone.  I think we'll get a lot of people to come.

We might buy a house in Mt. Oliver.  You wouldn't believe the cost of the house.  The whole house costs $1300.!!!  You should see the house.  It needs a lot of work done on it, but it's really nice.  I can picture it now when it's all finished.  It's not that big of a house, but it's really kind of cute.  It's got a little yard in the back, which is just big enough to grow a little garden, and to have our kids play in when we have kids, which is another subject that I wanted to bring up.  There is a definite possibility that I am pregnant, I'll be expecting in June.  By that time you will have a vacation coming.  You have to  come back and visit us anyway.  Later on when we take our little trip around the country, we'll come and visit you.  But we'll let you know when we're coming.

Guess who shaved their beard off?  Yes your right.  It was really weird the way he did it.  We were lying in bed watching TV, and Ken got up, said he'd be right back, went into the bathroom and stayed there for awhile.  When he got back, he scared me.  I had to take a second look.  It's really different.  I'm not that quite sued to looking at a bare face.  I'll get over it.

Kenny got a new name, it's JUMBO!  Isn't that a cute name?  Jumbo is what you call bologna in prison.  So if you hear it around where you at, you can think of JUMBO in East Liberty.

Well guess what, we've decided to let the house go.  We just had a meeting with our welfare worker, and she said if we bought the house while we were on welfare, welfare would put a lean on the house.  I just asked Kenny how to spell lean, and he said yes, l-e-a-n, but it's really a b-u-s-t.  Yes, that's just what he said.

Don't take as long to let us know what is happening with you.  I make sure to answer your next letter faster than this one.  Don't forget that you will be the Godfather of our first child.  Kenny says hi, and to take good care of yourself.

September 17, 1974 (Letter from Ken and Denise)

We received your letter on the 7th or 8th of September, and had read it both together.  We are both writing this letter to you, so we will introduce whom is writing to your at each new paragraph. There are a lot of things going on between the both of us, and DOLLAR DATE.

Last week we answered an ad for models.  So we called, and they told us to come down and apply.  We went down on a Monday, and scheduled to work the following day, which was Tuesday. I was (Denise) (better known as Neecy, my new name) modeling on Tuesday.  Oh yea, by the way, we're nude modeling.  Both of us.  It's really exciting.  I was so excited about it the first time. You should experience it once in your life.

Right now, we are smoking grass, and trying to get stoned, or at least high.  We bought a lid from Koerbers, and it is really shitty!  Is it easy to get grass in Montana?  Have you smoked any while you've been there?  Kenny's smoking mainly to feel better, cause he's got a terrible cold at the present time.

Oh, guess what happened today?  Well, when I was modeling today, I was sitting on a bike that was too big for me.  When I sat on the bike, my feet wouldn't even reach the floor.  Well, we took a break and I got back on the bike, but in the process of reaching the seat the bike tipped, fell next to me where I fell. I'm in the nude when all this is happening.  That was a day to experience. Because I got up at 6:00 to get down there and find out that I'm not scheduled for that day.  I got home, and got a call from the agency to find out that they want me back down because they can use me.  So I finally got to model.

DOLLAR DATE is coming along really good.  At the present time, we are in the process of opening up a branch office in Harrisburg, in Morgantown, W. Va., and one in Boston Mass.  We have two other people working for us, as far as getting memberships.  One of them is a male cab driver, and a female student  trying to earn a little money.  We've practically hired the one in W.Va.  We are almost to the point where we'll break even.  All we need is about a month.

Paul -- Hi.  This is Ken.  We have this letter in the typewriter and we each are taking turns when we feel in the mood to do some typing.  As you can see, there are a lot of mistakes, especially on my part, but we figured that you wouldn't mind and so as mistakes occur, I just keep typing.  I guess that Neecy must have told you in the prior pps. that we are doing some nude modeling.  We get work whenever and as often as we wish to exhibit our really neat bodies.  It is an experience that is really far far out.  I love it.  After the class is over, every girl in the room tries to get you to take her home and fuck her.

No letter would be complete if I were not to give you the latest on the invincible DOLLAR DATE. We now have a total of 102 paid members.  Some of the chicks coming into the program are really sharp little girls.  I should have opened this business when I was single.  My god, some of these chicks are really nice.  AHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh.,.....Hope Denise doesn't read this part!

Next month we will be even with all investments which will be right on schedule.  We were now offered $7000 for the whole business.  International Date Match is now out of business.  Fuck them.....

Have you found a place to live yet?  I hope so.  I bet that you are really enjoying your job at the prison.  It is a two fold experience for you.  I am really glad that you are working in a prison.  It may have a lot to do with your future.  You will learn from the cons as well as provide them an educational service.  Some of your ideas the goals I am sure will change.  It is good also that you are working in a minimum security joint as there is no fear of large scale riots.  Please do not judge all prisons on the basis of what you experience there and you must keep the same attitude and open mind about that various cons as individuals.  Never let someone convince you to do an outside favor.  Once you do, you are done for.  I am sure you are all aware of this anyway but I thought that I might mention it.  You are going to be up against minds that can talk the brass off a fucking knob!

I now turn the typer over to Neecy.   --------Hi Paul, how are you today?  I don't know if Kenny told you that today is Sunday, Sept. 22, 1974, but it is,.  We're going over to my aunt's house for dinner today.  Isn't that great!!!!  We have two main courses, spaghetti and roast, with mashed potatoes and gravy.  Well, we went, and it was great.  Th ere was stuffed cabbage, and it was really good.  We got some to bring home with us.

I am how informing you of latest news happening with the Walleys.  The Koerber has a home out in North Hills and wants Kenny to take care of it.  It's really great out there.  There is two acres of land out there, with a real lot to it.  At the present time, the house has no one living out there, and the house itself is a wreck!  We are going to fix it up and live there maybe.  Ike wants us to care for it cause he got a job offer in Washington, D.C.  The house is really fantastic, and there can be a lot done with it.

When we went over to my aunts place, I unpacked a hope chest, full of things for the home, and some of my other things.  My mother's wedding dress was in there, and Kenny couldn't understand why it would be very important to my aunt.  But when we got home, I tried the dress on, and it fits like it was made for me.  Kenny really likes it now, and he thinks that it is the best thing in there.

We really like the warm letter you sent us.  Be sure to answer this one.
